Persuasive Research Editorial essay
Prompt: The purpose of this essay is to choose a controversial social issue in which you take a stance and persuade your audience using persuasive rhetoric (logical appeal/logos, emotional appeal/pathos, ethical appeal/ethos). Make sure you choose a topic from the list of "301 Writing Prompts" (which is shown on the bottom of this page) and that you make clear the argument on BOTH sides. Only one person per topic. I must record and approve your topic, and if you decide to change it you must let me know. In preparation for writing your essay, think about addressing the following questions: · What are pro and con arguments for your issue? · How has this issue affected the groups involved? · How will you address the counterargument? In your essay, you must include the following: - 450 words + a works cited - an introduction - a thesis statement - body paragraphs o clear argument with support o evidence and examples to support your argument o quotes from your text o transitions between ideas o counterarguments - conclusion - works cited - minimum 3 sources, one of them must be an article from the NY Times website
